Turkish advance endangers U.S. forces – U.S. Intelligence chief
Turkey’s ongoing intervention against Syrian Kurdish forces has complicated the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) and put U.S. forces at risk, Voice of America quoted U.S. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats as saying.
Turkey would take every opportunity to prevent the majority-Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from advancing in Syria, Coats told the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Elsewhere in the Middle East, Coats said that he expected the humanitarian crisis in Yemen to worsen as the war between the Iranian-backed Houthis and the Saudi Arabia-supported coalition continues.
The war in Syria was also expected to continue throughout 2018, Coats said, despite a reduction in conflict in certain areas and increased control of the suburbs of Damascus by President Bashar Assad’s forces.
