Turkish FM speaks with U.S. Secretary of State on the phone
Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu spoke by phone with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Saturday, Turkey’s state-run news agency Anadolu (AA) reported.
The phone conversation took place on U.S.’ request, Anadolu said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday said he is not planning to call U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Turkey’s military operation in Afrin.
“We talked about Syria [with Trump] before, and he was supposed to call me back, but he didn’t,” Erdoğan was quoted by Turkish newspaper Sözcü as saying. “I will not call [Trump] unless he calls me,” Erdoğan said, adding they speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin regularly.
Turkish ministry of foreign affairs also summoned U.S., Russia and Iran’s envoys on Saturday, and informed them about “latest developments in Afrin,” AA said.
