U.S. challenged by rising powers – Turkish columnist

An historic exceptional period in which the United States was the world’s sole superpower is coming to an end with the rise of new powerful nations, pro-government newspaper Sabah’s foreign desk editor Bercan Tutar wrote.

“The exception is the United States trying to dominate the world on its own as a superpower as it did after the Cold War,” Tutar said.

“Therefore, the events in Syria in particular are in fact a transformation in the world system from chaos to normality. And doubtless the biggest loser in this period will be the United States.”

The United States, Tutar said, faced more than one geopolitical power at the same time for the first time since World War Two.

“In addition, it must fight on three different fronts and battlefields. It needs to struggle against China economically, Russia militarily and the Islamic world, led by Turkey, geo-culturally,” he said.

“That is why the United States, which has become everyone’s enemy, will suffer the fate of the USSR.”
