U.S. Embassy in Ankara closed on Monday due to security threat
The U.S. Embassy in Ankara issued a security alert and announced that the Embassy would be closed on March 5th, 2018 due to a security threat. The Embassy did not announce when the services will reopen. The statement did not specify the security threat that prompted the closure.
The Embassy will only provide emergency services; the security alert says noting that passport renewals including lost or stolen passports, reports of birth abroad, and notarial services, are not considered emergencies.
The Embassy also cancelled visa interviews, and other routine services related to visa applications to the U.S.
The alert also warned U.S. citizens to avoid large crowds and the Embassy, to heighten their personal security postures and awareness' and to notify family and friends of their safety.
