Scholar Amy Holmes shares her experiences after speaking at CHP Syria conference and receiving attacks from Turkish ruling party media

Scholar Amy Austin Holmes is an associate professor of sociology at the American University in Cairo on leave. Holmes is currently 2019 Visiting Professor at the Middle East Initiative of Harvard University.

Holmes was one of the speakers at the international conference on Syria which was organized by Turkey's main opposition secularist Republican People's Party (CHP) on on September 29. Holmes's first book was on Turkey-U.S. relations and titled "Social Unrest & American Military Bases in Turkey & Germany since 1945," published by Cambridge University Press.

Holmes spoke to Ahval's Ilhan Tanir about the conference experience and then the attacks she had to endure from the pro-AKP media due to her remarks on Syrian Kurdish forces.
