Sanctions case a Trump attempt to squeeze money from Turkey – ruling AKP MP
A member of parliament for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) said on Tuesday the U.S. prosecution of a Turkish banker on charges of helping Iran evade sanctions was an attempt by President Donald Trump to squeeze money out of Turkey.
“The United States wants to put Turkey into a difficult position,” Burhan Kuzu told the CNN Türk news channel.
“This situation is Trump trying to squeeze money (out of us) with his trader mindset … We don’t have money, Trump, mind your own business.”
Even if Turkey had broken the rules, the lawyer and former head of Turkey’s constitutional commission said there was no hope of a fair trial in the United States.
“In the U.S., there are one-sided judges, one-sided prosecutors, and one-sided convictions,” he said. “This case rests on nothing.”
